ACTING 1 FOR THE BEGINNER
Join actor Ken Alter for this fun acting 7 week class. Here, you develop the ability to respond truthfully, dynamically, and vividly with fellow actors and the ability to access sensory elements. You tap into the power of imagination and the reservoir of memory.
Our Beginner Acting 1 class is a transformative experience for aspiring actors looking to develop their skills and confidence on stage. In this class, students explore three fundamental aspects of acting: character development, improvisation, and monologue performance. These essential components work together to help students grow as performers and connect with their audience in a meaningful way.
Character development is a crucial skill for actors to master. In our class, students learn how to fully embody a character by exploring their motivations, desires, and emotions. Through exercises students develop a deep understanding of the characters they portray and learn how to bring them to life on stage. This process allows students to explore different aspects of themselves and develop empathy for others, enhancing their ability to connect with audiences and tell compelling stories.
Improvisation is another key aspect of our acting class. Through improvisational games and exercises, students learn how to think quickly on their feet, trust their instincts, and collaborate with others in the moment. Improv helps students develop their spontaneity, creativity, and ability to react truthfully in any situation. These skills are crucial for actors to have, as they often need to adapt to unexpected circumstances on stage and create genuine, engaging performances.
Monologues are a staple of the acting repertoire, and our class provides students with the opportunity to hone their skills in this area. Through scene work and individual coaching, students learn how to analyze a monologue, break it down into beats, and create a fully realized performance.
Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on exercises, and performance opportunities, students learn valuable skills that will serve them well in their acting careers.
