Service Description
This course aims to move students past initial stage fright and simple performance to a more nuanced exploration of the actor's craft. Scene Study and Partner Work: The central component is often Contemporary Scene Study. Students will: Analyze Scripts: Learn to break down scenes into specific beats (units of action), identifying their character's objectives (what the character wants), obstacles (what stops them), and tactics (how they try to get what they want). Develop Relationships: Focus on listening and reacting authentically to a scene partner to create dynamic, believable, and evolving stage relationships. Subtext: Explore and perform the meaning that lies beneath the written dialogue (the subtext). Deeper Characterization: Students will be challenged to go beyond surface-level character choices: Emotional Reality: Work toward achieving authentic emotional identification with the character, making choices that feel truthful rather than indicated or artificial. Physicality and Voice: Further explore how movement, posture, and vocal expression (like pitch, pace, and volume) can define and enhance a character. • Given Circumstances: Integrate the "given circumstances" of the play and scene—the who, what, where, and when—to fully inhabit the character's world. Starts 1/14/25 7-9:30pm EST and runs 7 weeks Price: $325.00 Instructor: Ken Alter
